About F. D. Ugese

Prof F. D. Ugese is of the Department of Crop Production, University of Agriculture Makurdi, Nigeria (now Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University). He obtained a B. Agric (Crop/Soil) and M.Sc (Crop Production) from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi. He bagged his PhD (Crop Science) from the famous University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in southeast Nigeria. His active research activity has culminated in the production of more than 60 scientific publications many of which are in reputable international journals and publishing houses. Prof Ugese is actively involved in the teaching and supervision of students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels particularly in the fields of Horticulture and Agronomy. Over the years, he has accumulated a wealth of experience through research, teaching, attendance at conferences and workshops, and through his involvement as a practicing farmer. He served as a member of the Standards Organization of Nigeria’s Technical Committee on Fruits, Vegetables, and Related Products, where he participated in the draft standard for fresh mangoes and draft code of practice for harvesting, transportation, packaging, and storage of fresh mangoes. He also participated in the harmonization of ECOWAS standards on a range of products, including carrots, mango juice and nectars, dried mango, garri, and food-grade cassava starch. For some time now, he has been involved as a facilitator at various workshops and trainings across the country involving critical stakeholders in the agricultural value chain. Prof Ugese has held many positions of responsibility in the University system. He is currently a Professor of Horticulture and Director of University Teaching and Research Farms.
